PDO THREADS

What are PDO Threads?

PDO Threads are non-surgical and cosmetic. They are used for treatments to restore volume or fullness to the face and they work by reducing or eliminating lines, wrinkles, folds in the skin, as well as skin tightening – just like a face lift. The effect is seen immediately after treatment, but it is also progressive and gets better with time as the collagen builds up around the dissolving threads.

PDO Threads are made of a substance called polydioxanone and have been developed quite recently for the placement into the skin for a mini face lift without the need for surgery.

What is Polydioxanone?

Polydioxanone is the material used in the PDO threads and is commonly used for biomedical applications, particularly in the preparation of surgical sutures. Other biomedical applications include orthopaedics, plastic surgery, drug delivery, cardiovascular applications, and tissue engineering.

It is degraded by hydrolysis (the degradation of a substance with the help of water), and the end products are mainly excreted in urine, with the remainder being totally eliminated by digestion or exhaled as CO2.

Depending upon the size of the PDO suture, the biomaterial is completely reabsorbed in 6 months and can be seen only as a ‘foreign body reaction’ in the tissue in the vicinity of the implant. Which is exactly what we want from aesthetic PDO threads; as collagen builds up around the thread and creates a lifting effect.

How it works?

PDO Threads are one of the most popular and highly effective non-surgical means to lift & tighten loose, sagging skin tissues as well dissolve small areas of fat on the lower face and body. PDO (polydioxanone) is a synthetic fibre and in aesthetics, the threads help to lift sagging skin as well as stimulate new collagen - your own natural collagen. Another interesting effect of the threads are their ability to induce lipolysis (fat cell death), making them very effective in treating stubborn fat pockets in the face and body, as well as inducing collagen and tightening the skin. It’s an amazing discovery!
